Project Four for Schools without Ceramics Facilities:
Press Moulds / relief work / repetition / plaster plaques


Suitable for all key stages

Overview
This project will let pupils see what happens when they press objects into clay, let them see the effect of repeating an image, and will produce a simple relief panel. It is also a way of producing a hard, durable object which comes originally from clay, without needing access to a kiln.

Materials needed
Clay
Wooden boards / cloths to roll out on
Rolling pin, rolling guides,
Plaster of Paris
Pencils and tools to draw into the surface of the clay with.
A range of objects to press into the clay such as shells, combs, screws, stones, lace, pine cones, old broken bits of wood, small toys such as farmyard animals, leaves etc.
