Project
Two for Schools without Ceramics Facilities:
Design a plate
Suitable for Key Stage 2 and up.
Back at School
Paints should be fairly thick. You can mix a bit of PVA with the paint
to help with the consistency. It will also give the paint a sheen
when it dries. Using their drawings as a source, students should section
up a sheet of paper and do a series of tests using the following decorating
techniques:
Sponging. build up layers of paint with a sponge. Sponges can
also be cut into a shape such as fish, and students can print
repeat images with this.
Painting. Go for bold bright colours. Practice making various
marks and patterns using different shaped and size brushes. Think
about how easy it will be to repeat any images / patterns chosen.
Stencilling. Cut a paper stencil and lay it on the paper. Holding
it with one hand, gently brush or sponge colour over the top.
Sgraffito. Apply a thick layer of paint to the paper. Use the
end of a pencil or pen to scratch through the paint to show the paper
underneath dont press too hard!
If the pupils use the same basic image each time, for example, a fish,
the variation in technique will be more obvious. |
